How to Create a Steak-ation
If you’re going to create a stay-cation atmosphere for your home, be sure to include the steak-ation element. Every great outdoor living area includes a BBQ kitchenette where you can grill steak. This is where all the magic happens. Food, drinks, s’mores and more. The fun is never ending as long as you have lots of great food and drinks included.
Here are some tips on how best to grill your steak as you are enjoying your stay-cation for the weekend.
Steak Prep
If you know you’re having friends over and want to cook up some steaks be sure to take your steaks out of the freezer at least 24 hours in advance. The best strategy is to take them out two days ahead. Thaw out in the refrigerator. Then, the night before your cook out put the steaks in marinade zip lock bags. When your ready to take them out to the grill take a cooler to put them so they stay cool until the minute you slap them on the grill. Having friends over means you may get distracted. You don’t want to have those zip lock bags sitting out for too long before they go on the grill. If they’re in the cooler a delay is ok.
BBQ Smoke
If you don’t have a charcoal grill but want that amazing smoky flavor, here’s instructions from LifeHacker on how to get it on a gas grill:
The method is simple: you’ll need some aluminum foil, and some wood chips you want to burn for that delicious, smoky smell and flavor infused in your grilled food. Soak about two cups of wood chips in water for 15 minutes, then drain them. Leave another two cups completely dry. Then wrap the soaked chips in one aluminum foil packet and the dry chips in another, making sure the chips don’t poke holes in the foil. Cut two evenly spaced two-inch slits across the top of each packet, and put both packets of wood chips on your gas grill’s primary burner.
The combination of wet and dry chips will give you steady, even smoke over the course of your cooking, so you don’t have stronger smoke at the beginning of the meal and weaker smoke later, and so you don’t have to add more chips later on while you’re grilling. It’s simple, easy, and adds a ton of flavor and aroma to your backyard grill out.
Wagyu Grill
When grilling up a Wagyu steak be sure not to over cook it. After the BBQ is hot, sear each side for 2 minutes for rare and 4 minutes per side for medium. If you have cast iron plates then put them on those while you wait at least 5 minutes before eating.
